James Gale

Biography

James Alexander Gale (Born August 16, 1990) is an English guitarist as well as pianist, composer and arranger.
Born in Exeter, Devon. His family moved to Hampshire at two years old, remaining in Winchester for the rest of his childhood. His first experiences with musical education were piano lessons at the age of 7 for a few years. Mostly self taught on Piano during his youth, James then re-entered classical training in his later teens. At the age of 8, James became a chorister at St.Lukes church in Winchester, singing choral and solo works and progressing quickly through the RSCM theory an ... d musicianship gradings. He also branched out into contemporary singing with performing theatre choirs at 10 years old. From the age of 12, he began studies on guitar; firstly with jazz guitar and later, classical.
James is studied a Music degree at the University of Southampton with tutors Ben Oliver & Michael Finnissy.
Compositionally; James has worked on, and assisted many projects including the Bollywood Baratt score in association with composer Niraj Chag for
the Arts Asia project in Southampton, UK. He has also worked on music
for student films and projects. He has had pieces played at the London Wind Festival in 2011, and at his University. He has also contributed an arrangement of Gershwin’s ‘Somebody Loves Me’ played at The Nuffield Theatre in March 2012.
He was also guitarist in the Brunel jazz ensemble from 2009-10 and performed with such artists as Errollyn Wallen in London. During his time at Southampton he played in piano bars, as an accompanist, in pit bands and national-renown performance venues in the South.
Since graduation, James has had a strong and busy career as a freelance musician, playing in a lot of different venues around London mainly as a hired pit musician. He is also in an acoustic duo with singer Stephanie Rodriguez and regularly deps for a folk band in the South of England. He also teaches music privately.
