"Dutchman Vincent van Hessen, known simply as Vince, has become a popular artist at the Umbria Jazz. Vince sings and plays guitar. His seemingly endless repertoire ranges from Paul Simon to Leonard Cohen from Bob Marley to Bill Withers and even Frank Sinatra (He does an incredible reggae version of My Way!) Heard busking in Perugia at a recent edition of Umbria Jazz, and didn't go unnoticed and was invited to perform at the festival last winter and then at the summer festival in Perugia"

Have been engaged as bar musician on a cruise ship in 2013 on the 'Viking Lines'.
Have performed in multiple festivals amongst other: Umbria jazz festival 2015/2016/2022
and the Adelaide Fringe festival in Adelaide Australia 2019.

Meet the Act

From a very young age I always wanted to entertain, but I wasn't really funny, but I discovered I can imitate accents and hence made the kids in school chuckle some, and began writing my own little skits performing them with a friend in school plays.
At the age of 8 I had been given a snare drum by my mother as I always had a feel for rhythm.
But after one year of having lessons the only drum teacher in the city left town, so I went back to being a playful child.
But something was aching to for some kind of outlet, of some kind
and at the age of 14 I was given a guitar for a school play a ... s a matter of fact, subsequently guitar lessons were followed
and I had found my vocation.
It took years, way too many years actually to get my musical knowledge rolling. I was too serious about it all initially and would practices 6-8 hours a day and study classical guitar at the conservatory, when one day I was offered to lead a trio band
based on Blues and Funk music.
Till the early naughties I led various own trios and performed with various bands but always needed a side job to make ends meet, which I disliked.
Got really tired of living in the Netherlands and moving in endless circles, so I moved out to New York City where I discovered that street performances or busking, definitely can pay the bills and beyond.
Upon return to Europe at the end of the first decade of the 2000s I embarked on career as a full time busker in Amsterdam initially, after a short stint as guitar teacher.
I have busked since about 2011 on average 320 days a year and had enjoyed intensive touring as such,
in over more than 20 countries.
