This is something I didn’t expect to post. Each year our village provides a Christmas dinner for the old gits of the village and tonight was the night (those over 60 qualify) sad to say I have been going for nearly ten years now. A meal is provided along with a drink and free raffle. Entertainment is also provided and usually it is not to my liking to say the least, boring. As it is for old codgers some has been ‘old fashioned’ even before my time and as it is in a Scottish fishing village often has a Scottish flavour. Some I could listen to but there is only so much a Gay Gordon’s type music I can put up with, Tonight was different. Whilst my wife and I were making our way to the village hall we contemplated the type of musical entertainment we were to expect, commenting that we never seem to get music of our taste, possibly 60’s and 70’s. A pleasant surprise to see & hear a blue haired guy sing & play three types of guitar, uke, electric bagpipes, saxophone, ha ...rmonica and a penny whistle. Mixed to 50’s and 60’s music with some traditional Scottish tunes and a few modern songs thrown in. Some of the backing tracks were obviously put together medleys and I truly think he did them his self they sounded brilliant. Typical set up with the occasional echo reverb, not overdone and a well balanced sound. I have no idea who he was but will find out from the organisers tomorrow because I was pleasantly surprised and truly entertained, I have no idea what he charged but for the hundred or so old gits there it was money well spent. Does prove that even out on the West Coast of Scotland there is Superb Talent still about working venues and doing a bloody fine job, credit to all of you entertaining us oldies. When I am entertained like this I jump back to my days in the seventies and so miss those days, longing to be young again!! Hope you don’t mind an old git rambling, whoever you are believe me, your Brilliant.
