Biography

My name is Egemen Ustun and I am a street performer from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. My parents and I immigrated from Turkey to Canada when I was 4 years old. When I was growing up, I would always see buskers performing in the streets of the ByWard Market, and I thought they were so amazing that I learned how to juggle and unicycle all by myself, just because I thought it was interesting and it kept me busy growing up. When I was 15 years old, a random street performer told me that he could construct a solo street show for me if I paid him. So I did and performed my first show on the streets of m ... y hometown. Just me, by myself, in the heart of the ByWard Market. Little did I know back then, but that was the start of something big. All of the other performers did not want me on this spot because I was young and inexperienced and I would take away from their ‘prime-time’ for ‘money-making.’ In their eyes, I was just another performer on the pitch who didn’t deserve to be there. Yet, I did not let this stop me. I was getting better and better every single show and they were beginning to take notice. As time went on, they started to accept me a little more and even give me some quick tips and pointers to improve my act. Since those early days, I have developed my show to great heights. I have now been performing for over 8 years, and I have performed at some prestigious international comedy and busker festivals as well! Including, but not limited to, the ‘Just For Laughs' International Comedy Festival (2018 & 2022), the Dundas International Busker Festival (2018), and also won first place in the ‘Hottest Busker’ competition for my local Ottawa radio station which gave me a spot in the Ottawa International Busker Festival in 2019! Growing up as an only child I was always looking for ways to entertain myself. Before I found my fire show, I was a competitive tennis player in the hopes of going pro one day! And I used to act and was very fond of magic. As I got older, I transitioned everything I've learned into my fire show. I recently just graduated from McGill University in 2020 and I studied Kinesiology. Now that I'm no longer a student, my main thing is trying to be the biggest performer in the world one day!
