Biography

Award Winning magician, Steve Owens started in the art of magic at age 12 after seeing a famous magician perform live in Los Angeles. That day planted a potent seed made from creativity, obsession, and the sheer desire for extraordinary magic abilities. He started with elementary books, & acquired mentors soon after, eagerly advancing into the world of magic. While sacrificing school work and time outdoors, Steve would spend hours alone in his room practicing magic. Later, after finishing high school he joined the Magic Castle junior program, which inspired up and coming magicians to take t ... heir art to the next level. But, even though Steve studied and practiced magic with most of his free time, he rarely performed big shows. The thought of being on stage under a spotlight was a bit frightening and almost felt a bit arrogant to him. That was one perspective. However, the fact that his friends and others really enjoyed his magic and benefited from it, he decided to take on the spotlight, & hasn’t looked back ever since.
But, in the beginning the journey was not easy. His first large public performance was a scary experience because his arms clamped up, his sense of touch left his hands, and his mouth became dry like the Sahara desert. These were the signs of physical shock, also known as stage fright. However, with constant exposure to the object of fear, Steve was able to overcome his anxiety. In addition, some of his stage fright issues may have arisen from his childhood when he was the shy kid who sat in the back of the class and said little, if anything. Also, his family was conservative, soft spoken, and did not necessarily encourage making waves in society.
While growing up in Los Angeles, Steve had other issues along the way, such as the physical toll that magic took on his hands and arms. Obsessively practicing sleight of hand for hours led to injuries like tendinitis, which was also aggravated by the computer work he did when obtaining is Bachelor’s degree in business. After finishing school, he moved to Las Vegas for 2 years, and then to Southeast Asia for the next 4 years, where he did TV appearances & hotel shows. But, after missing the holidays, and driving a car along the beach or through the mountains in America, Steve decided to visit home again, where he entered many magic competitions around the US, winning 10 awards for his 8 minute silent stage act. Soon after, he was invited to China to do a national TV appearance on one of the highest rated TV shows in the country.
In China, Steve was able to do close up magic for a new TV audience, and even for children on the Great Wall of China. Also, in local theaters he performed his award winning stage act, which he has been developing since 2006’. This act encompasses sheer sleight of hand with normal everyday objects, tied together in a stunningly poetic display. “Simple in effect, sophisticated in approach” is his philosophy. He also stared in and produced his own full theater show called, Magic Beyond Belief” in 2012’. Steve has performed in Vegas, Hollywood, & six different Asian countries around the world.
