Shelly Gartner: A Key Man in Music

Biography

Shelly Gartner is a versatile composer, pianistaccompanist, vocalist and educator. He has vast experience playing solo as well as with a variey of ensembles. As a composer, he has written scores for a number of musicals that have appeared in NYC, including “Kerouac”, “Troll-Loll-La” “Pucelandia” and "The Adding Machine Musical". As a pianist and vocalist he has played rooms such as “Don't Tell Mama”, “Brandy's”, “Room 53” and other piano bars, as well as major hotels representing both Peter Duchin and Steven Scott Orchestras. Sheldon has also led the “Neptunes”, ... a trio consisting of piano, bass and drums, aboard two Holland America cruise ships, featuring The Great American Songbook and has accompanied scores of singers both in the Catskill Mountains and in the five boroughs. As a dance accompanist, Sheldon's experience includes Bronx Dance Theater (ballet), Sarah Lawrence College (modern), Westchester School For the Performing Arts and Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance (ballet and modern). For the latter two, Sheldon was thrilled to play for many visiting artists including Alexander Glaz, Yvonne Boree, and Michael Trunsovec. As a teacher, Shelly has taught music and movement to youngsters in Hawthorne, NY and Pawling, NY elementary schools as well as music theory and ear training at the Academy of Musical and Dramatic Arts in NYC.
