Rebel Lyons

Biography

I, Rebel Star Lyons (real name)
was born in Townsville in 1994, and grew up on the Sunshine Coast, slaying
my school talent shows and performing lead roles in musicals at my local youth theatre.
My favourites were the Witch in Into the Woods, and Emcee in Cabaret.
These roles instilled a love of theatre and made me who I am.
In grade 12, my fellow school captain was diagnosed with Leukaemia,
which inspired me to do the World's Greatest Shave, and after completing the
Harvest Rain Musical Theatre Internship in 2012, work for 5 years as a phlebotomist
for the Australian Red Cross ... Blood Service. Is this still relevant? I hope so.
Whilst harvesting blood donations I performed in several community theatre productions, including Saturday Night Fever in 2015 and a Rocky Horror Tribute Show in 2017.
In 2017 I commenced the QUT Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama),
and in 2018 I got married in Las Vegas. In 2019 I graduated uni as a divorcee.
Throughout my degree I worked as a rollerskater and character performer for Phoenix Entertainment, Bogan Bingo host for Hooray Entertainment, and Dance Captain for the Common People Dance Project. I also devised and produced original theatre and film with Lightning Bolt Creative and Faux Facade, and appeared in Betty Grumble's Variety Show Grumble N Friends
- a career highlight.
After graduating uni I plunged straight into the festival scene as Assistant Producer of Woodford Folk Festival 2019/20, under Kylie Southwell. I hosted ReBeL BiNgO! and assisted absolute icons Neridah Waters and Lucas Stibbard in their performances.
In 2020, like majority of my artist peers, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands, and I mostly hosted online gameshows for international companies through Banana Life.
While contemplating my divorce I birthed SAME PENIS FOREVER, a one woman cabaret/comedy show about the institution of marriage. In 2021 I performed
SAME PENIS FOREVER at Backbone Youth Arts, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Byron comedy Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival, and Backdock Arts. I continued hosting
ReBeL BiNgO! at Woodfordia's Bushtime events, and in 2022 I returned to Adelaide Fringe with 20 performances of SAME PENIS FOREVER at The Lark and The Melba Speigeltent.
In May/June I was Marie Antoinette in Spacefold Technology's Time Travel Cafe,
and bitchy waitress at Karen's Diner. Last weekend I was the dance instructor for Wuthering Heights Day (Gold Coast) and I am producing Roller Daze for Brisbane Festival in September.
Moving forward into 2022 and beyond, I want to host and perform in larger variety shows, work on cruise ships and have even more ridiculous fun. Thankyou for reading!
