Megan Baker

Description

I am an opera singer, classical crossover artist and classical musical theatre singer. I sing standard repertoire, but can adhere to any requests you may have! I am available for corporate functions, weddings, funerals and long term contracts.

Biography

Megan Baker is a British mezzo-soprano, with degrees from Alexander Gibson Opera Studio at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Royal College of Music. Her studies were generously funded by the RCS, The Opera Awards Foundation and The Kochan Trust.
Megan completed her undergraduate study in 2021 at the RCM in London under the tutelage of Timothy Evans-Jones, where she was supported by the Douglas and Hilda Simmonds scholarship. She was previously a scholar at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music.

At the RCM, Megan has been grateful to work in depth alongside Stephen Var ... coe, Jo Ramadan and Gary Matthewman. She has had the pleasure of taking part in masterclasses with Simon Lepper and Amanda Roocroft.

In her first year at the RCM, Megan was fortunate to take part in a 16-voice ensemble for the RCM’s annual Bach Cantata Project. Scenes with the RCM include Proserpina (L'Orfeo - Monteverdi) in 2020, Miss Todd (Old Maid and the Thief - Menotti) and Alma March (Little Women, Adamo) in 2021.
Megan's operatic debut began in June 2017, which saw her perform scenes with Opera Britain as Mozart's 3rd lady (Die Zauberflöte) and understudy for Purcell's Dido (Dido and Aeneas).

2019 saw Megan perform in the 6-person chorus, including solo lines, for Puccini's La Bohème with Westminster Opera Company at the Chateau de Panloy, Port d’Envaux (France).
Megan was proud to have been selected as a Young Artist with Nevill Holt Opera for their Summer Season 2021 taking part in the chorus of Verdi's La Traviata.

Megan’s first year at the RCS has included a workshop with director Keith Warner on the works of Stephen Sondheim, where she performed in scenes of A Little Night Music as the role of Desirée Armfeldt. She has also participated in a masterclasses led by Ann Murray DBE, Susan Bullock CBE and Josephine Barstow DBE.
Scenes at the RCS saw Megan perform the roles of Eduige (Rodelinda), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) and Charmant (Cendrillon).

Megan performed her role debut as Nancy in Britten’s Albert Herring in the summer of 2022 with St Paul’s Opera, and that same year took on the lead role of Marylin Monroe in Gavin Bryars’ Marylin Forever with RCS Opera. January 2023 saw Megan as Aloès (L’étoile - Chabrier) and she will end her studies at the RCS with a performance of Elena Langer's Four Sisters in the role of Irina. Megan was also pleased to reach the finals of the Ye Cronies Opera Competition at the RCS in 2023.

Since her time at the RCS Megan has been enjoying her time freelancing, and recently performed with Clonter Opera in their Spring Opera Showcase.

I have always loved to sing! And once I got hooked on opera I just couldn't stop.. and that's not just because I get to wear the fancy dresses! Alongside singing I am a Disney fanatic (so if anyone is offering a job as a Disney Princess, I'm right here!) and a yoga enthusiast.
