She also tends to create arrangements for her own take on a song. She can sight read very well and can learn pieces quickly if needs be. She can also accompany herself on the piano and guitar when singing. She works very closely with harmonies and has a good ear for harmonising and improvising with scales/keys etc and when singing with other vocalists.
College and Freelance Work
She has studied a HNC in Musical Theatre at Motherwell College, HNC-HND Music at the Academy of Music and Sound Glasgow and has returned to university to achieve a degree in BA Commercial Music with the University of the West of Scotland. Original Music, Charity Work and Other Projects
Katie was awarded funding through YoungScot’s Time to Shine Nurturing Fund, of which she has been using to work on recording her first EP. She released the single off her upcoming EP, Blue Roses as well as her music video in 2020, both of which garnered great feedback from the public. Blue Roses was also featured on numerous radio stations including The Afternoon Hour on BBC Radio, as well as podcasts, radio interviews, playlists, featured and more. Blue Roses had also been chosen as a Wild Card Contender for the Andrson Uploaded Songwriting Competition and was a Round 2 Semi-Finalist. Blue Roses was also included in 2 compilation albums; one for Classy Lassy Volume 1. a compilation album compiled by Amy Lou Rogers for SAMH and another for the charity, Health in Mind, which she also performed a live virtual gig for to promote the album. She also filmed a set for another charity, Who Cares Scotland, helping to raise money and awareness for their work. She also organised a successful gig for SAMH in 2019, raising almost over £200 with the aim of the gig being entirely female fronted.
She put together a project to collaborate with other Glasgow/Scottish based musicians to record her song, Flower Child, for two charities including WWF UK and SAMH which was released last September. She was awarded a scholarship onto the Artist Roadmap Accelerator programme and launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund the rest of the costs, she is now currently working on the programme. As well as her charity work with her music, she has dipped her toes in the water with podcasting and has recorded several shows of her podcast, Banter with Ceiti, in order to promote her own music, talk about important issues and help other musicians promote their music too. She recorded an episode for The Sound Lab aired on Radio Buena Vida, showcasing 8 female artists songs and chatting about the theory/technique/performance etc behind them which was very well received.
Katie was part of Fiona Liddell's project Cover to Cover, involving 11 other artists who are covered each other's tracks which was then compiled onto an album with funds from sales going towards SWIM (Scottish Women Inventing Music). The project came about from Fiona's desire to bring more female musicians/artists together and raise awareness of the lack of representation for female musicians/artists in this industry. Katie covered Amie Huckstep's, Get Over Yourself as well as recording a video too. Each artist in this project, was also featured in The Scotsman as Artist of the Week, in association with Dragon Soop and New Found Sound Media and received decent press coverage as well as features in podcasts and on radio shows.
As well as her solo project, she’s one half of Glasgow duo Artax, writing vocals/lyrics and more. Since joining Artax, they have released 3 EP/albums, singles, live videos-with their music being featured on many radio shows, podcasts, playlists, features, online gigs/performances and more, all garnering great feedback! Artax most recently performed at Strathclyde Union, a prestigious venue where big names such as Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and more had performed at over the years. Artax are a huge part of what she does and she’s excited to delve more into where it could go with gigging, touring, festivals and more.
She does a lot of collaborative work and over the years has been part of several recording/session/online collaborative projects with other artists and producers, including also having recorded vocals for library music and TV ads. She recorded vocals on 2 albums for a project with an artist named Ruadh who released the albums worldwide and has had the likes of James Cosmo talk about the first album as well as some other amazing reviews. She has also been part of several other collaborative recording projects, one of which, the track was most recently played on BBC Introducing South. Other collaborations include Thine Inner Sanctum, Ashen Sky, The Morning After Club, Divide and Rule, and many, many more collaborations from Fiverr, SoundBetter etc.
Plans for 2022/2023
Katie is currently working on recording the rest of her EP, which she will release this year. She is continuously working away at recording orders, performing at weddings, pubs etc and is studying her degree. She will be taking a break from Ceiti once the EP is released, and focusing on Artax, who will be gigging for the rest of the year as well as working on and releasing new music.
Conclusion
Taking inspiration as a modern-day Stevie Nicks with a little bit of Amy Lee, Taylor Momsen, Chris Cornell, Norah Jones, Ariana Grande, Adele and Stevie Wonder thrown in the mix, Katie considers herself to be very versatile and experienced in performing and vocals and pride herself on her friendly nature and professionalism. She always takes a professional approach to everything she does and absolutely loves and is incredibly passionate about music and is eager to share that enthusiasm with everybody else out there!”
