Julie Kench

Biography

Julie was born in Cheshire and studied at and Trinity College of Music, London where she holds the 2003 Ricordi Opera Prize.
Operatic performances include La Modista in ‘Il Capello di paglia di Firenze’ ( TCM Opera), Armida in ‘Rinaldo’ ( Invivo opera), Despina (Cosi fan Tutte), Giovanna (Rigoletto), Queen of the Night (Magic Flute) and the leading role in ‘The Saint of Bleecker Street’ by Menotti.
Julie sings with many choral societies and vocal ensembles and she has a wide Oratorio repertoire.
2004 -2009 Julie was a member of International Acappella group The Swingle ... Singers. During her 5 years in the group she toured all over the world and performed in some of the best Opera Houses and Concert Halls.
She worked alongside composer/beatboxer Shlomo, creating the vocal soundtrack to the Alfred Hitchcock silent film ‘Downhill’, fully utilising her extensive vocal range and stylistic versatility.
Since 2017 Julie has been part of a vocal duo called Indigo May. Performing on some of the world’s most exclusive cruise ships Indigo May perform a variety of music including classical crossover, jazz and pop.
When Julie is not cruising and performing she works as a singing teacher in schools and her private studio, and also runs singing workshops.
