Biography

We are an acoustic indie duo from the busy city of Johannesburg, South Africa. Being very in love with music, we write our own songs and cover the favourites as we draw from our influences, which are from a plethora of artists such as “Us the Duo”, “Ed Sheeran”, “John Legend”, “John Mayer” and “The Civil Wars” just to name a few.
Our set-lists have a wide variety of genres and of 300+ songs that we enjoy playing in our own unique style, reaching back from the 1950s, right through till today. We are very flexible and capable musicians being able to gauge what the venue a ... nd crowd need - be it hype up the guests or bring it down and supply soothing background music for easy listening and conversation.
We have regularly performed at different venues all over Johannesburg and Pretoria such as “The Hard Rock Café”, and around the Eastern Cape. We have spent three years performing on multiple Carnival Cruise Line ships until the pause in operations due to Covid-19
We started doing music together in 2016 after we were asked to perform at an “Eating Disorder Awareness” event as a duo, we decided to make being a duo official and have enjoyed performing together since. We now spend our time traveling the world working on cruise ships, performing together, and getting to see the world as a happily married couple.
Jesse is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and singer who has been involved with helping and playing in different bands and musicians in Johannesburg. Kylie is a singer-songwriter who has written songs for a few artists and loves to play the Cajon.

Experience

Most recently we have been playing at special events and music venues. Before then we spent 2018 -2020 as a Mainstream Duo on Carnival Cruise Lines on a few of their ships. We have played at several venues and events around South Africa from 2016-2018, as well as weddings and other special occasions: Weddings, Birthdays, corporate and family functions.

Meet the Act

We are Jesse and Kylie Martin. Born and raised in different places but found each other in Johannesburg, South Africa. Our love for music is what united us and after a few years of dating, we got married and immediately jumped onto a cruise ship. We spent the first 3 years of our married life as cruise ship musicians. But then when 2020 hit, much like everyone else, we got affected by Rona and her effects on the travel and entertainment industry.
When we got back to land after 3 months of being held on a ship, we tried to make sense of life on land and moved to the small coastal town of Jef ... freys Bay along the eastern coast of South Africa. After a year of trying to make work of what we were doing before we got married – Jesse perusing Software and Web Development, and Kylie Illustration and Design, we felt music was still the love of our lives.
We moved out of our pretty apartment and into Jesse’s grandparent's house, making use of their caravan as our “workspace”. We are taking a huge leap of faith and chasing after our dream of being full-time musicians, traveling, writing songs, and singing where ever we are given space. Read More
