Description

My preference is to perform solo as singer/guitarist or with my 5 piece dance band the "Crown Jewels". My repertoire is diverse and embraces musical styles from soul, salsa, reggae, jazz and blues. We carry our own sound equipment and lights (at extra cost). My musicians are locals who live in Puerto Vallarta. We are willing to travel anywhere in Mexico. Concerts are 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Private events like weddings, anniversaries, birthdays... are calculated at 4 hours.

Biography

Performing throughout Europe for over twenty years, I've toured with my quintet "Jazzy Motions", my trio "Triplex", as well as "Jazz Romances", "Nite Line", the "Berlin Dance Orchestra", Janice Harrington's "Roots of Gospel", the “Golden Gospel Singers”, the “Black Gospel Voices” and my own gospel quintet the "Rite Spirit". I've also starred/co-starred in several of Germany’s Broadway musicals including "The Lion King”, "Hair”, the “Buddy Holly Story”, "Sister Act", "Shout" and "Oh Happy Day".

Empress Al-Yasha - Jazz Band - Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Event Location: Casa Karma, Conchas Chinas, Puerto Vallarta Event Type: Concert 9th September 2024

This summer we offered top-drawer entertainers in Puerto Vallarta the opportunity to perform in the air conditioned intimate space of Casa Karma Private Villa and Event Space. Empress Al-Yasha became part of that series and masterfully engaged the diverse capacity crowd in multiple ways through her soulful music. Her music is always entertaining and soulful. There was merriment through joyful dance and jazz and blues and active audience participation. Even the most stalwart believers who Love to say ”I don’t dance” couldn’t resist the magic of Empress. The skilled musicians aptly named the Crown jewels added to the polish of the evening.

I recently had the pleasure of hosting Empress Al-Yasha for a solo performance at my rooftop stage here at Casa de Influencia, located in the center of Puerto Vallarta. From the moment she stepped on stage, her presence was captivating. Empress is an incredibly talented musician and singer/songwriter. She brings such positive energy to her performances, filling the space with good vibes. Her warmth shines through as she makes each guest feel at ease, like they’re right at home. On top of her musical talent, she’s also a fantastic storyteller, keeping everyone engaged throughout the evening. I'm truly excited to invite her back for another performance at Casa de Influencia. She’s a rare artist who leaves a lasting impression on both the audience and the event itself.

Experience

My current constellation, "EMPRESS AND THE CROWN JEWELS" is my favorite project. Together with Mexican musicians Edwin Martinez/Bass, Edgar Bernache/Piano, Alan Hernandez/Guitar and DannyJu Lopez/Drums, we performs a repertoire that embraces musical styles from jazz, soul, blues, salsa and Caribbean music.

Meet the Act

Born and bred in the fast-paced jungle of New York City, I've zigzagged across the globe like a musical nomad, sharing my art. I didn’t even start singing until later in life, proving it's never too late to find your groove! Before that, I was an IT consultant—until I realized working 24/7 wasn’t my idea of 'living the dream.' So, I ditched the corporate world, dusted off my soul, and found my way back to music.
With a degree in theater (thank you, CUNY and Hunter College), I dabbled in everything from soap operas to community theater in NYC, before landing some Broadway/Off-Broadway ... gigs. Then came my big moment: touring Europe in the musical *Hair*. I loved it so much, I stayed, starring in musicals, co-founding a cultural center, and even running my very own jazz club for eight years! What can I say? Music and managing things—totally my jam.
Now, here’s what makes me, well… me. I love singing like it’s my superpower. Talking? Don’t get me started; I could win a gold medal for that. Cooking? Yes, because I love to eat—obviously. Oh, and I’ve been to so many countries that my attempts at speaking the local language are, let’s say, *legendary*. Picture me on stage, trying to order breakfast in five languages at once—it always ends in laughter!"
As serious as I can be, I enjoy nothing more than fun and entertaining people. I want everyone who sees/hears me perform to feel happy and uplifted from the experience. My goal in life is to be happy!
