Biography
My name is Efa Mackenzie and I am an emerging independent artist, singer/songwriter, dancer/choreographer, performance-maker and actress, currently based here in Perth. I graduated with a Bachelor of Performing Arts (2020-2022) from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and completed my post-graduate (Honours) studies in Performing Arts at WAAPA in 2023.
I was recognised for being a multifaceted artist across the duration of her studies at WAAPA. My work in my graduating showcase, IMELDA, won the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) award. IMELDA’s success durin
... g its second development at the PICA Museum was renowned around Perth and was selected to show at The Blueroom Theatre’s Summer Nights Program in January - February 2024.
I headlined her debut concert, You So Smooth: EFA in Concert, where I premiered all my original music such as: NEVER LEARN; BI BI; YOU SO SMOOTH. The performance was held at The Subiaco Arts Centre from January 25th - 29th 2022.
I made her Perth Fringe World debut as the female lead in Passing: An Asian-Australian Musical, in February 2021. In 2023, I debuted as a Musical Director for Club Nightmare.
In my senior years of high school, I was selected to train under The Talent Development Program in Sydney. This was where my original songwriting and music production, as well as my choreographing, and performance-making skills, were nurtured and developed.
My state-wide exposure in NSW led to international opportunities; I sang as part of a vocal ensemble in 2016 for NSW West of the Divide Europe Tour, where we toured across 5 countries in Europe - Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
I gained most of her performing experience under the NSW Public Education Program, The Arts Unit. I have been selected to perform at various venues and notable institutions including the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, The Concourse Chatswood, Sydney Seymour Centre, Tamworth Regional Entertainment Conference Centre (TRECC) and Qudos Bank Arena.
I am a State and National scholarship recipient of both the Variety Heart NSW/ACT and The Youth Off The Streets - Sony Foundation, and received a total grant of $19,500 from 2018 - 2021.
