Description
I was a contestant at IPOP Las Vegas in January 2018 for dancing and acting. I won a first place gold medal for my hip hop dance in the 14 - 17 year age category. I also participated in the acting section for "monologue", I was then awarded 5th place in my age category. A couple of months later, my brother and I was also chosen to be part of the South Africa Dance team to represent our county in Stiges, Spain in June 2018. I then received honor colors at school for participating in an international competition. I have always been part of the cross country and athletics team in primary and in
... high school. I was part of a team of runners that took part in our sub district competition for cross country running. I have always had good "ball sense" which meant that cricket and tennis sort was something that I could play with little effort.
Biography
I am a very social person, I think that is what dancing taught me. So from a young age I have been competing against other dancers and dancing in duos or groups with friends. As I got older, and more experienced, if there were any competitions or shows, I would assist the head dance teacher with helping out the younger inexperienced dancers. Help them with their movements, show them their dances, motivate them as well as jut be the big brother that they never had. I had to be quite strict sometimes, you know, kids can be a handful!! One time I have to look after one of our dance mom's daughter ... and her friend - mom had to work long hours and I was her backup. I kept them busy with games, monopoly, card games like "snap", they helped me make food for them (only hot dogs, but it was yummy) Going back to my dance school - it was very recent - an autistic girl registered to dance and because the other dancers in school did not really understand why she was so different, my dance instructor asked if I could help this little girl with some dance moves in a different part of the class room so that individual attention could be given to her. I was quite nervous to do this, but to my surprise, I actually started to enjoy helping someone where something like just a pointy toe was a huge achievement for her. That made me so happy, and I spent long hours after that teaching her very basic dance moves. At the end she actually took part in a small dance competition and she received a certificate of participation. Just the look on her face will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Experience
I have successfully completed my novice star dance exam for all dance styles and proceeded to bronze which is the same a level 8.
