Description
We are "ARLENE & DOUG", a high tech glitzy & colourful party band duo'.
We perform 'party type' cover songs from 50's to present time, - a wide variety of music ranging from popular classics eg., Connie Francis to Lady Gaga, Abba, Country/Line dance, Authentic Traditional Scottish - Gay Gordons & other Scottish favourites. Basically music to suit all tastes from easy listening to music that goes through the roof (so to speak.)
Arlene is main vocalist in the band also plays 'Keytar'. Doug plays state of the art - Yamaha Tyros 5 Keyboards & Midi Accordion, also provides vocals.
We produce a
... full band sound - not a quiet acoustic set.
Arlene has previously been nicknamed “Dolly Tartan” by the press, and has had photographs published in some of the national newspapers, as she does resemble the great Dolly Parton herself, who, incidentally happens to be her idol.
Always dress to impress!

Biography
ARLENE & DOUG (The Ultimate Scottish Party Duo)
Arlene & Doug are a glitzy, colourful and “unique” male/female party band duo based in Aberdeen, Scotland, who perform party type covers from 1950’s to present day, including Country, Standards, Pop/Rock and authentic traditional Scottish etc. Their extensive repertoire (which consists of hundreds of songs) ranging from Connie Francis to
... Abba, Lady Gaga through to today’s current chart. They like to incorporate (where and when appropriate) the occasional Scottish twist such as Gay Gordons / Strip the willow and other Scottish favourite dances, as well as Ballroom styles, Waltzes, Foxtrots and Quicksteps etc. They read the audience and know the songs that will get the people on the dance floor!
Arlene is the main vocalist in the band, whilst Doug plays hi-tech Tyros 5 keyboards & midi accordion. Arlene occasionally plays the keytar. They feel that both the accordion and keytar are unique instruments and always attract interest. People tend to be fascinated by those instruments. Arlene & Doug may be a small band, but they produce a full sound by using state of the art technology.
Arlene worked as an Air Stewardess for many years before taking the plunge into her lifelong ambition of singing. She joined a local music school and passed exams to grade 7 standard with the London College of Music, including a selection of music theory exams with ABRSM, (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music,) and had been involved with various musical projects before teaming up with Doug. Since then, the pair have continually been working as a musical duo. Besides music, Arlene enjoys tap dancing, and also carries out some modelling work (mainly charity based.) She won the title of “Miss Congeniality” at a local beauty pageant. Arlene also speaks conversational Norwegian, having lived and worked in Oslo, Norway for some years. Arlene has a bubbly personality and is an outgoing, colourful and flamboyant individual. She has previously been nick-named “Dolly Tartan” by the National Press due to her strong resemblance and character of the great Dolly Parton herself, who, incidentally, happens to be her idol.
Doug has recently retired from his full-time occupation of many years as a Construction Plant Manager. He has been an accomplished musician for most of his life, having worked with various artists over the years, as well as managing his own family bands with his two sons and a selection of vocalists. During this time, Doug and his band had supported many of the bigger named acts touring across the North of Scotland. Although Doug’s passion is music, he (when spare time allows,) also carries out some voluntary support work for his local church. He is also involved with a national medical organisation, providing first aid cover at many venues across the North East of Scotland, ranging from large pop concerts to corporate events and various other public gatherings. Doug also has a bubbly personality, although he has a more serious disposition. That said, he holds excellent traditional values and professional working etiquette.
It has been said that Arlene & Doug are like ‘chalk & cheese’ in a quirky sort of way. They met through a local enterprise and formed as a duo several years ago. To date, they have performed at many varied types of events, including private functions, weddings, dinner dances, social clubs, church/community gatherings etc., as well as some prestigious charity celebrations.
They have worked for their local city council performing at formal and informal gatherings, such as Aberdeen’s Tartan day to Family Intergenerational Celebratory days. Arlene was also invited to conduct the high profile opening speech on behalf of Aberdeen City Council for the Queens Diamond Jubilee Party in 2012, held at the city’s prestigious ‘Duthie park’. They have also received awards from their local council in recognition of their devotion to charity work.
**More recently, Arlene & Doug have completed a very successful and enjoyable two-month assignment onboard a Cruise Ship as ‘Guest Act’ - Supernumerary status.**
The duo always puts strong emphasis on visual and stage presentation and “dress to impress” using striking, colourful, coordinating, eye-catching outfits.
