Description

The Benny Goodman Sextet is widely regarded as the best small jazz group of all time. Our sound and style is modeled after that remarkable band but with a sophisticated and modern vibe. Our hard driving swing is refreshing and infectious, inspiring dancers and bringing toe-tapping joy to listeners of all ages. This music is incredibly difficult to play and we enjoy making it look and sound effortless.
Our repertoire incorporates music from Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and Lionel Hampton to Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennett. You'll hear great swing music recently made popul ... ar by the likes of Dianna Krall, Michael Buble, and Harry Connick Jr.
Our instrumentation is unlike any other band in the region and very few in the world -- we feature Clarinet, Vibraphone, Piano, Bass, Guitar, and Drums. What's a Vibraphone? It's a lot like bells or marimba, but has vibrato when you hit the metal bars. From time to time we are also fortunate to work with some of the best "chick" singers around including Lannie Garrett, Jodi Renee, Wende Harston, Lisa Bell, Deejha Marie, and Joni Janak. We've even worked with actress Lea Thompson and her daughter Madelyn Deutch!
Our show, Swing Sets, Benny, Basie, and Beyond with Lannie Garrett is featured at the Colorado Music Hall of Fame at Red Rocks! The 20th Century Masters induction concert aired on Rocky Mountain PBS in 2017.

I have been hiring After Midnight for a decade and a half and they just keep getting better with time! The quality of musicians in the band is second to none! Roger’s impeccable clarinet virtuosity, Mike McCullough’s smooth vocals, Bijou Barbosa’s fabulous, rhythmic string bass, Jim Moore’s infectious rhythm on the drums, Jerry Weiss’ impeccable improvisation on the piano and Rick Weingarten’s ever energetic vibraphone playing all make for an exceptional evening of incredible music! I have hired over 200 acts in the last 19 years and After Midnight is definitely the top for talent, professionalism, value and enjoyment!"

"(After Midnight) has been one of our most popular acts for as many years as they have appeared at Evergreen. Excellent musicians, they play the Goodman-Shaw-Herman style small group tunes, but they also cover a wide variety of swing genres beyond the expected repertoire of clarinet-vibe combos: a little bit of Latin, a little bit of "cocktail pop," a little bit of blues. The band is thoroughly professional, making them a pleasure to work with."
