WHO SHE IS
Born in Uberlândia-MG, Helen began on the 80's singing styles as a member of the ... city's Municipal Choir - Opera, MPB, Public Songs, National and International Pop. At the beginning of the 90's, she began singing at a few nightclubs and nearby region called Triangle, afterwards she went to Spain, Madrid, where she lived for four years, singing Jazz, International Pop, Bossa Nova, MPB and Spanish Music. Part of a Spanish girl band "Las Lunares" which has already recorded a record, this is what Helen Calaça has accomplished so far. Participating in an Audition alongside 30 other Spanish girls, without even being able talking to speak Spanish, managed to get the position and also learn the local language and what follows in Spain was taking part of the second biggest carnival in the world at the Canary Islands, playing percusion.
In 1995, she was a contestant in the Festival Canta Minas do Rede Globo, with a composition of her own: "Leaves in Color" where she won the regional stage, with Emmerson Nogueira who would win the state stage of this festival, there she would have for the first time her voice recorded in an album, along the other winners of the festival, released by Som Livre. She then opens the show of Jane Duboc happening at her city. Also in 1996 she had her first experience singing on ships, traveling throughout the Northeast, Argentina and Uruguay.
In 1997, she released her independent album "Leaves in Color", containing compositions and interpretations of great regional repercussions, the album surpasses sold over 13 thousand copies, with ten tracks being her own compositions and unpublished tracks by friends who are also composers, one of the tracks by Luiz Melodia, and as studio technician: the Chilean Cristian Eduardo, who today has among his works the soundtrack of the American film Avatar. With the album in hands, she then goes to Rio de Janeiro, where she is in contact with EMI Music do Brasil, works with Torcuato Mariano and Christiaan Oyens in a six-track production that she has chosen hand in hand with Paulo Moska, Jorge Vercilo, Ebony Vox, Citizen Who and Vítor Ramil.
In 2000, Helen was a contestant on the show Talents of Faustão, where she competed against more than 35 thousand other contestants, representing the State of Minas Gerais and her hometown, ending as one of the 28 finalists. She continued to promote her album throughout the region and then the rest of Brazil. In the same year, she opens the O Rappa concert in her hometown.
In 2001, Lilian Klabin's "Passatempo" house, where Amaury Jr interviewed her for his TV show broadcasted by Tv Bandeirantes "Flash", which was showcase in São Paulo nightclubs.
In 2002, the singer held a special guest appearance on the band's independent CD Reverendo Jones.
In May of 2003 participates in the Show of Alê Ferreira Balroom. At the invitation of the label Deckdisc, under the artistic direction of João Augusto, she was given the chance to recorded two songs: one by Chico Buarque - "Basta Um Dia" - off the CD "A Being of Light: Greeting to Clara Nunes, Old and New Generation" (which features Elza Soares, Cristina Buarque, Zeca Baleiro, Mônica Salmaso, Seu Jorge, Teresa Cristina, among others), and "Cristiania'71", which is from the CD "Tranqüilo" by DJ Marcelinho da Lua (with collaborations by Roberto Menescal, João Donato, Seu Jorge, Mart'nalia, among others). Both CDs were released in the second half of 2003.
In 2004, had performed in numerous nightclubs she participated in Phillipe Baden Powell's show at Modern Sound, Rio de Janeiro, an event held by Delira Music. This year, in Portugal, the CD "Divas Cantam Chico" (with colaboration by Elis Regina, Maria Bethânia, Gal Costa, Zizi Possi, Ana Carolina, Adriana Calcanhoto, Fafá de Belém, among others) which were released by Som Livre, it includes her interpretation of "Just One Day", along Paulão Sete Cordas.
During 2005, important projects were developed. The Rio Company Farmoquímica do Brasil, through the Delira Music label, bought 15,000 copies of her independent CD "Leaves in Color". The company, together with Rádio MPB-FM, sponsored 3 concerts she performed in the city of Rio de Janeiro; and in the national magazine "No Clima da MPB" (30,000 copies), she published a song along with her musical godfather, the singer and composer Flávio Venturini.
In 2005, in Rio de Janeiro, she performed the music from producer and pianist Paulo Calazans, at the Centro Cultural da Justiça Federal, in the "Postal Postcard of MPB" project.
She participated in Mièle's talk show at the "Casa de Cultura Estácio de Sá", where she also presented her show "Folhas Secas", which later went to Madame Vidal's stage.
Also this year, Helen records together with pianist Adriano Souza, the tracks: A Sunflower The Color Of Her Hair, by Lô Borges; From His Side Here, from Nando Reis; Flower, by Zeca Balero and Musica Del Japón, by Pedro Aznar, registered by Mercedes Sosa. She also recorded the track À Toa, by Marco Lírio.
During 2006, she recorded the song "Vambora" with music producer Pedro Ferreira of Take One Studio, which is part of a CD with regional distribution of more than 15 thousand copies.
In 2008, the singer comes back on ships, singing as the leading vocals of a Big Band, where they set up altogether 8 different shows.
In 2009, the singer joins the band El Niño, along with Teco Padaratz and Christiaan Oyens, passing by the surf circuit in Florianópolis. Then, along with Christiaan Oyens, Dunga, Vidal and Sasha Amback, the singer records four tracks of a project of Soul Music being: The Groove Is On The Heart, My Girl, Natural Woman and I Want You Back.
On June 13, 2015, after twenty years of the Canta Minas Festival of Rede Globo, she meets Emmerson Nogueira, when she got involved on a promotion by the artist himself, being among the thirteen artists chosen to be with him, singing on the stage of Vivo Rio in front of more than three thousand people, after having recorded a homemade video with compositions of the new disc of Emmerson.
On June 14 of the same year, she participated in Djavan Sambas with Tárcio Cardo and Téo Lima + quartet, in the famous Beco das Garrafas, where Elis Regina began, among others. His songs play every day at Radio Universitária de Uberlândia, M.G., 107.5 fm, since 1997, by Jorge Chamberlain, Sérgio Moreno and Alexandre Heilbuth.
2022-2023 she did the Meraviglia MSC season. Bahamas-Caribe.
